FrogTape Painter's Tape Review

green frog ribbon, often referred to as green painter's tape, is an excellent product that I have used many times over the years. This product is slightly more expensive than ScotchBlue painter's tape, but the adhesion is stronger for a tighter seal.

FrogTape Multi-Superficie (Grün)

When not in use, this tape should always be stored in the plastic container it is supplied in to prevent the adhesive from drying out. Here is my evaluation of the performance of Green FrogTape:

  • wall strips:This product is a must have for wall striping as it works wonders for crisp lines. I have done several wall striping projects and paint bleed is almost completely eliminated with this tape.
  • Order and Windows:Green tape is good for masking decorative edges of wall paint, but not for fresh paint, as it can lift paint off the surface when peeled. FrogTape also works better than Scotch brand for masking glass in wooden windows, especially when it's cold outside. Blue tape does not adhere well to cold glass.

FrogTape sensitive surface (yellow)

The reduced liability ofyellow frog ribbonIt's best for sticking to fresh paint or delicate surfaces that might otherwise be damaged by overly sticky tape. An example would be covering the sides of stained cabinets or wallpaper. If you stick regular blue painter's tape to the side of a closet box for a few days, the liner might tear when you remove it. Here is my assessment of how the yellow FrogTape works:

(Video) Painters Tape Test. The Best Tape for Painters.

  • Cabinets and fresh paint:I recently painted the walls and cabinets in a kitchen with yellow FrogTape to cover the freshly painted walls along the cabinet edges. When the tape was removed a few days later, there was no paint oozing on the cabinet walls below, nor did the tape pull any paint off the walls. This product is safe to use on fresh paint that has dried for at least 24 hours.
  • Bottom:Low tack tape is best for wallpapering. Thin wallpaper may tear or the print on the surface may come off when using the high-adhesive tape.
  • Piso:When newly stained floors need to be masked for wall painting or decorating, Delicate Surface Masking Tape is ideal, especially if the floors will be masked for long periods of time.

3M ScotchBlue Malerband on test

3M ScotchBlue brand is the most commonly used masking tape for painting walls and trim. When I roll up walls I often use the regular blue tape to cover the top of the baseboard and it works well for that. I also use it to mask the sides of door frames. I use it with him3M masking machine.

Combined dispenser for adhesive tape and masking film

The 3M Hand Masker is one of the best paint prep tools to have. I've had mine for over ten years and it still works great. The tool applies the tape and protective film to the surface at the same time. Regular blue masking tape, frog tape, and white masking tape can be used with the 3M masking machine to mask surfaces for spraying or rolling.

Here is my evaluation of the performance of 3M ScotchBlue painter's tape:

  • Interior lining and corners:Blue duct tape works well for masking interior trim and corners when painting an accent wall. The trick to getting a tight seal with this product is to press along the edges with a 5-in-1 tool or flat head screwdriver. This almost completely eliminates color bleeding.
  • Multipurpose use:This product is thicker and easier to work with than thin FrogTape and costs less, but it does not always stick well in colder temperatures. Oil primer also tends to bleed easily in my experience. Green FrogTape Multi-Surface is a better choice for priming and painting window frames.

What about ScotchBlue Walls + Wood Floors painter's tape?

Like FrogTape, ScotchBlue Walls + Wood Floors does the same thing, but this product isn't sold in stores near me and isn't available locally, so I use FrogTape Delicate Surface.

What is the best painter's tape for concrete or brick?

Traditional blue tape does not have enough tack to adhere well to concrete or brick, so Scotch Hard-to-Stick Surfaces is your best choice for lining a garage floor with epoxy or covering brick in a fireplace. You can also use it to cover concrete under wooden pillars or garage door frames when painting.

ScotchBlue vs. FrogTape: Which is better?

ScotchBlue and Green FrogTape are often available locally, but I use ScotchBlue painters tape most often because it costs less and works well when used correctly. But for wall striping and situations where I can't risk paint or primer spillage, the green FrogTape is great. I really like FrogTape Delicate Surfaces and use it often to tape floors, cabinets, and freshly painted walls.

The best product depends on what you are covering. For the ease of covering the edge, I prefer regular BlueScotch. The tape is thicker and easier to work with, and it doesn't twist or wrinkle as easily.

Always be sure to choose your type of tape based on your painting project - are you painting drywall, wood, metal, wallpaper, etc.? Look at the details.

What is the difference between painter's tape and masking tape?

All masking tape is classified as masking tape, but not all masking or white tape is of a high quality to classify as masking tape. While all masking tape is made with a crepe paper backing, painter's tape is made with a more durable backing. This durable backing eliminates wrinkles, residue and tears commonly associated with general purpose tape.

How is masking tape classified?

Choosing the right masking tape depends on the surface to be treated and the paint. Masking tape is rated by the number of days the tape can remain on a masked surface without leaving a residue. Common pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape ratings include 1, 3, 7, 14, and 60 days, with 7 and 14 being the most popular. Longer reviews, like B. 60 day ratings have less tack and work well on delicate surfaces compared to 1 day ratings which have high tack.

What is the best painter's tape for crisp lines and streaks?

Green FrogTape Multi-Surface and ScotchBlue Original Multi-Use. ScotchBlue is usually half the price, but offers comparable results and clean lines.

What is the best painter's tape for walls or textured surfaces?

ScotchBlue tape is great for textured surfaces, but it's more about the technique. Treat the surface as a flat surface and make sure the application site is clean. Some choose to apply a small amount of paintable putty to seal the tape; You can smooth it out with a rag and let it dry before painting over it.

What is the best painter's tape to prevent paint smearing?

Green FrogTape Multi-Surface is great, but also more expensive than ScotchBlue. ScotchBlue gets the job done when used correctly.

What is the best color to paint cars?

3M Auto Care Performance Masking Tape is generally recommended for use with water or solvent based paints. Be sure to choose the right color for your project.

What is Kapton tape used for?

Kapton tape has a silicone-based adhesive and can withstand high temperatures. It is used in the manufacture of fragile electrical components.

Painting Tips for Painting Success

Here are some tips for preparing ceilings, floor coverings, door and window frames, tiles, etc. in a room for a large painting project, including accessories and furnishings:

masking accessories

  • painter's tape of choice
  • damp cloth/sponge and mild soap
  • flexible spatula or flat screwdriver
  • Plastic tarpaulins, tarpaulins or curtains
  • utility knife

Optional gadgets

  • 150-grit sandpaper block (no sanding required for oil or acrylic paints)
  • 3M masking machine and masking film when using ScotchBlue
  • PPE or personal protective equipment (mask or respirator, eye protection, and gloves if necessary)

How to mask or mask a room for painting

  1. Remove furniture or objects from the room.
  2. Make sure the paint you've applied has had time to dry before proceeding; Check the manufacturer's drying time.
  3. Optional: Sand any rough surfaces with a 150-grit wet sanding block. Be sure to sponge the walls clean afterwards and let them dry.
  4. When you're not sanding, wipe any dust and grime from the surface you plan to paint with a damp rag and allow the surface to dry completely.
  5. Vacuum up any remaining debris.
  6. When not using the 3M Masking Machine and Masking Sheet, continue to apply 12" strips of tape along the wall, overlapping the edges. Long pieces of tape can cause warping or stretching, allowing color to it runs
  7. Place the tape as close to the wall as possible. Do not fold the remaining edge of the tape over the skirting (unrolling the tape over the edge may bleed the paint). The lip acts as an additional barrier.
  8. Use a flat head screwdriver or putty knife to precisely embed the tape along the length of the trim; Place it on the edge to maximize tape adhesion and prevent color bleeding.
  9. Use a utility knife to cut the corners of the strap by cutting the strap at a 45 degree angle; apply to corners of room.
  10. Cover the exposed edges of the wall brackets, e.g. B. Electrical box covers; You can choose to use paper or plastic with a sticky edge to cover.
  11. Remove cover plates and vents from walls; Plug and cover the exits. Stick the screws to the back of the cover plates to make sure all the pieces stay together.
  12. Lay down a canvas drop cloth, curtain, or plastic wrap to protect the floor.
  13. After the room is painted and the paint begins to dry, remove the tape immediately.
  14. Run a utility knife along the seam of the tape to score the edges and cut through the paint film.
  15. Tear the tape at a 135 to 180 degree angle to remove it cleanly.
  16. Use warm water, dish soap, and a lint-free cloth to remove any remaining sticky residue; Paint-safe waste removal products are also acceptable.
  17. Consider retaping between first and second use.

How much paint do I need to paint?

You may want to use a tape measure to measure the dimensions of the room ahead of time. 1 gallon of paint usually covers 400 square feet or a small space. This formula can also be applied to larger areas. Some websites offer calculators for precise measurements and area estimates. Also consider how many coats of paint will be needed.

Is it bad to paint in direct sunlight?

Yes. Direct sunlight can cause a number of problems with a flush project. The heat of the sun can cause paint to dry too quickly or unevenly, leading to adhesion problems, brush marks or overlap marks that occur when wet and dry layers overlap due to improper temperatures.

Mistakes to avoid when painting a room

Here are some general tips and mistakes to avoid to make your painting project a success:

  • don't skip Primer.Primer provides better adhesion and helps prepare the surface.
  • Don't guess.Test your paint color first and let it dry.
  • Do not miss it.Calculate how much paint you need before you start.
  • Don't skimp on protection.Wear personal protective equipment.
  • Don't skip the details.Brush all corners with a brush before rolling.
  • Don't forget to prepare. Prepare your brushes and rollers (remove any residue, fiber, lint).
  • Do not miss it.Use a ladder.
  • Do not use tape.Don't confuse Duck brand painter's tape with duct tape; the results could be catastrophic.

Good luck with your project!

Answer questions

Ask:What is the best masking tape for textured ceilings?

Answers:I would use the green frog tape or the yellow frog tape (sensitive surfaces). Frog Tape is thin and easier to work with in areas with uneven surfaces. It adheres well and the paint is less likely to run.

(Video) 5 FANTASTIC HACKS for Painters! Hand Masker Tips!

Ask:I'm going to put up a very expensive metallic tissue paper wallpaper. Unfortunately, skirting boards are glued after the wallpaper is installed. But I'm on the contractor's schedule. What ribbon is best for this delicate paper?

Answers:Honestly, I personally wouldn't put tape on expensive wallpaper, but yellow frog tape for delicate surfaces has worked well for me. However, I have never used this tape on wallpaper, only on painted surfaces. Yellow Frog Tape is designed to be used on delicate surfaces.

Ask:I am in the process of painting my son's newly painted bedroom. The ceiling was sprayed and painted. I'm not wondering which tape to use for my borders. I've used green frog tape before with great results, but the last time I used it I noticed it was pulling the paint underneath onto the bare plaster. What tape would you recommend to avoid this?

Answers:I would use the yellow frog ribbon. This tape is designed to be used on delicate surfaces. The tape has the same color blocking technology as the green Frog tape. The yellow version is a low tack tape that is less likely to peel off paint when removed.

Ask:What is the best tape for textured industrial floors?

Answers:Green frog ribbon. If the textured floor surface is not level, press the edge of the tape down to fill in any gaps that could cause paint to bleed.

Ask:I want to "paint" tiles on my kitchen backsplash. In this article, they recommend Frog Green Tape for the best "no bleed" results. However, the colleague in the video clip recommends yellow frog tape for easier removal and better overall results. What color of Frog Tape should I use?

Answers:Both colors of frog tape are fine, but if you need to apply the tape directly to the painted tile, yellow is best. The yellow tape is for delicate surfaces. Both colors have the same technology to avoid strikethrough.
