The climate in Avignon is generally mild and can be defined as mildtransitional Mediterranean, with relatively mild winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in southern France, 60 km (37 miles) from the sea, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
We are in the Rhone Valley (near Avignon is the Durance River which flows into the Rhone itself), where the mistral, a cold and dry north wind, often blows. In summer we are in the hottest part of France where the temperature can reach and exceed 35°C (95°F).
