You can also submit a request for the issuance of an identity card if you are looking after a child whose health condition makes movement difficult.
Municipalities may charge a fee for a blue badge. The maximum amount you can be charged is £10.

When you receive certain benefits, you can automatically earn a Blue Badge. The application will be uncomplicated.
You do not need to be able to drive to apply for a blue badge unless you are applying because of a hand problem.
Also follow the advice on this page to renew your Blue Badge. You cannot use an expired badge. So make sure you apply for a new one as soon as possible. You can ask your council when to submit your renewal.

Who can get a blue badge?
You are automatically eligible for a Blue Badge if:
- they are reported as blind
- Receive a higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) - check your decision letter if you are unsure
- receive compensation for the mobility of war pensioners
- received a lump sum payment as part of the Wehrmacht allowance (tariffs 1 to 8) and confirmed permanent and significant disability
When you receive Personal Independence Payments (PIP).
You are automatically eligible for a Blue Badge if:
- Rated at least 8 in the Movement section of your PIP rating
- scored a 10 in the Trip Planning and Monitoring section of his PIP assessment and was placed in category 'E' - meaning stress, anxiety or another mental health problem prevents you from leaving home

If you are not automatically qualified
You can still get a badge if:

If you or the child you are caring for has trouble walking
If you are applying on behalf of a child over 2 years of age with walking difficulties, please complete this section of the child application form.
You should describe your condition in as much detail as possible. Your walking problems must be the result of a significant and long-term disability.
Try to estimate how far you can go without help. If you're not sure, think about how many parked buses you could pass before you feel pain or need a break. The bus is about 11 meters long. So if you can only pass half the bus, you will only get about 5 meters. Write this on your form.
If you can't calculate the distance, write down how many steps you can walk without help instead.
Tell your community how long it takes you to cover that distance and how you walk - for example, whether you have to take small steps or walk.
Describe how you feel when you walk, eg B. if it causes you severe pain or shortness of breath, which makes you have to sit down and rest.
You have significant problems using your hands
Getting the blue badge is quite difficult due to the hand problem.
If you are traveling only as a passenger, you will not be able to get an ID card due to hand problems.
You need:
- they have serious problems with both hands
- Explain why you must drive regularly
- have significant problems using parking ticket machines or parking meters

Your child is under 3 years old and must be near the vehicle

If you have an incurable disease
Your municipality will usually process your request quickly. You must send a copy of the medical form stating that you have a terminal illness - this form is called the DS1500. You can get the DS1500 form from your doctor or consultant.
Contact your local counciland ask if they can fill out a paper form - tell them when you call that you are terminally ill. You still have to prove your eligibility, but your application may be processed more quickly. You may be given instructions to help you apply, eg B. Before signing up, make sure you have the following:
- Your social security number or child reference number if you are applying for a child
- the number, expiry date and advice on your current blue ID card if you have one
You will also need:
- Your original letter from the Department for Work and Pensions - if you are automatically entitled to an ID card
- Details of your medical condition - if you are not automatically entitled to a badge
- Proof of identity - for example a birth or marriage certificate, passport or driving licence
- Proof of your address within the last 12 months – for example a council tax bill, driving license or letter from a government agency
- The most recent digital photo of the person to whom the badge is intended - can be from your device or from a photo booth or store
If you are applying by mail
Send copies of your documents instead of the originals in case your application gets lost in the mail.
A copy of your proof of identity must be certified by a professional such as a solicitor - this is known as "document attestation". Some experts may charge a fee for document certification.
You should sign the copy and write on it:
- the words "This copy is a true likeness of the original"
- their name, address and occupation
- Datum

What happens after you sign up?
Your application may take a long time to process. You should contact your city council if you do not hear back within 6-8 weeks.
You may be asked to complete a mobility assessment. A healthcare professional will assess your ability to undertake a range of mobility activities. They will tell your community if they think your medical condition or disability limits your ability to get around to the point where you need an ID card.
You may also be asked to submit additional information or to speak with a council member.
In this case, your municipal council will inform you in writing if this is the case.
If your Blue Badge is refused, you can ask the city council to reconsider its decision. The city council's decision letter tells you how you can apply for a review and what the deadline is.
Renew your Blue Badge
You must renew the card after 3 years. Additionally, if you no longer receive the benefits associated with your badge, you must reapply for the badge.

You must return the Blue Badge to your municipality when you no longer need it, for example when your condition improves. Otherwise you will face fines of up to £1,000.
